This statue of a young girl and a flute-playing boy stands in the Central Park Conservatory Garden.

Corner Fruit Stand

Throughout the city, small corner markets are still the rule, displaying their fresh fruits and vegetables and flowers right on the sidewalk.

In Chinatown, Peking ducks hang from hooks in a shop window.

Gay Statuary In Sheridan Square

Greenwich Village's Sheridan Square is near the Stonewall Tavern, the site of the beginning of the gay liberation movement in the late 1960s. These terra cotta figures of gay and lesbian couples is joined by one of the local residents.

The city is a study in contrasts. Here, a homeless man sleeps on a discarded couch amid garbage bags, while beyond him, the blurred shapes are created by wealthy people getting into their large limosine.
