My father Bob Bishop was a successful professional keyboardist—piano, organ, and accordion—as well as a band leader. So naturally, I was drawn to keys early on but now I can do things with keyboards that my dad couldn't do. My Yamaha DX7 can synthesize the usual piano and organ sounds, which I use a lot on stage. But it can also recreate strings and horns and many other instruments that fill in the backgrounds of my recordings. Once in a while I still record a song using my dad's accordion, though, and I realize once again what a great musician he was.
