Mesa Arch forms a sturdy span, dwarfing the distant La Sal Mountains in eastern Utah. Though not as common in Canyonlands as in nearby Arches National Park, Canyonlands has its share of the graceful, wind-carved structures. |

Upstream from Canyonlands, the Colorado River has carved impressive buttes rather than deep canyons. The yellow of the cottonwood leaves contrasts the deep blue of the reflection of the sky in the current. |

The White Rim Road begins at the top of the Island In The Sky, the most popular area of the park. Through a series of very perilous switchbacks, the long, rough road winds down over a thousand feet. |
